Pastor John Eisenring - College & Career
What is your passion regarding the Kingdom of God, the church, our church, your ministry?
"Jesus is more than a humble teacher/philosopher. He is a King; seeking to establish His authority, spiritually, through the lives of those who have been touched by His presence and awed by the beauty and wisdom of His life and teachings as recorded in the Gospel’s. My passion for the kingdom of God is to reveal the majestic nature of Jesus Christ and to motivate people to know and do His will.
I believe the church should take more seriously the influence of “secular-progressives.” They have advanced their cause in every area of American life—politically, economically and academically. The Church has taken such a “non-offensive” posture that she is in danger of losing her voice. Some churches, having been absorbed into the stream of “post-modern” society, have sought to salvage their influence by compromising the gospel message and changing with society. We are called as Christians to be “salt and light” to the earth Jesus said in Matthew 5 that if we lose our saltiness we are no longer, “…good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” I long to see the church restored to the influential force on society that it has been in latter times.
New Covenant Church is a church where People meet the Living God. I desire to see our church recognized as an epicenter for spiritual growth in East Texas. I am passionate about finding leaders from within our body training them for ministry and planting churches with our DNA all over the United States.
I want college students and young adults passionate about their relationship with Jesus. A church populated with young adults and college students who want to be there is truly a miracle. Our church aggressively pursues this generation calling them to a real relationship with Jesus Christ. My desire is to see Our College Ministry dominate the college and young adult culture. Students are constantly bombarded by temptation to go clubbing, partying or just to sow their “wild-oats”. I want to see a massive move of God in this area that challenges the Spirit of Compromise attacking young adults and calls them to a sold-out passionate relationship with Jesus, their peers and the church."
What is your life verse and why?
"Rom 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. NIV My life, doesn’t belong to me it, is God’s to do with as He pleases. Under the Old Covenant the altar was the place where things were offered to the Lord to show that the people were dependant on Him. The people offered things that belonged to them such as animals from their own live stock, grains from their field and various other “offerings” Under the new covenant God doesn’t just ask for some of what belongs to us He asks for all of us. To offer our whole life as a sacrifice shows that we are completely dependant on Him. God is a far better manager of my life than I am. When the trials of life come my way, tempting me to take matters into my own hands, this verse reminds me to get back on the altar."
What was your salvation exerience?
"My life changed when I encountered the real presence of God at New Covenant Church over 15 years ago. I had a very strong aversion toward church and Christians. The change in me came not as the result of a powerful altar call but a progression in me as I experienced the presence of God and grew in the knowledge of Jesus Christ."
Why did you get into ministry?
"Approximately 8 years ago I received a passion for Gods word. I never had this before then. I loved God, cared about others and wanted to be a positive influence for His kingdom; but, I never felt I knew enough to do anything significant within the church. I began to attend our college ministry Life Challenge and in that environment I received the spiritual gift to study and teach Gods word. My pastor John Graves recognized this even before I did. He began to mentor me and give me opportunity to teach and lead at life challenge. Eventually Pastor Chuck Warnock, Senior Pastor at NCC became aware of this and began to mentor me as well."
When did you join the NCC staff?
"I became a staff member at NCC, taking charge of the College and Career Ministry—Life Challenge, in 2004. I graduated from Kilgore community college with an associates degree and am currently enrolled at UT Tyler where I am finishing my bachelors degree in Political Science."
Who is in your immediate family?
"I am married to, Cherie Eisenring, the most wonderful woman in the world. We are expecting our 1st child in July 2009. His name is Roman Isaiah Eisenring."
Where is your favorite place to pray?
"In my sons bedroom early in the morning I want him to see his daddy model a loving relationship with Jesus."
